Position Title:  Substitute Teacher

Location: Lafayette County School District     

Reports To:  Building Principal

Description of Position:  Instructs students and facilitates their learning in the absence of the regular teacher. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.

2. Perform a program of study recommended in the lesson plans created by the regular teacher. 

3. Provide an environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning. 

4. Maintain reasonable rules of conduct which encourages self-discipline and responsibility. 

5. Maintain a professional appearance as an example to students.  

6. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm, and tornado warning procedures. 

7. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

8. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.  Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.

9. Remain at school the entire school day unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:      

1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

3. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

4. Conclude evaluations and daily reports to give an account of any information pertaining to the events of the day.

5. Perform other duties as assigned.
