Position: SPED Facilitator
Job Summary The Special Education Facilitator/Teacher Assistant provides intensive instructional, behavioral, personal care, and medical support to students with disabilities in self-contained classrooms, medically fragile units, or assigned 1:1 settings. This position supports students whose needs may include complex medical care, mobility assistance, and individualized behavior or safety plans. A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is strongly preferred to meet the health and medical needs of assigned students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional & Classroom Support
* Assist the special education teacher with daily instruction in a self-contained or medically supported classroom
* Implement IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications under teacher direction
* Provide structured support for students in 1:1 or small-group instructional settings
* Support communication systems, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
* Collect data on academic, behavioral, and functional performance as directed Medical & Health Support
* Provide medical care to students with documented health needs, following physician orders, IHPs, and district protocols
* Administer medications and perform medical procedures as trained and authorized (e.g., tube feedings, suctioning, glucose monitoring, seizure response, catheterization)
* Monitor student health status and recognize signs of medical emergencies. Communicate health-related information with the school nurse, special education staff, and administration
* Maintain accurate medical logs and documentation in compliance with district and state requirements. Personal Care & Mobility Support
*Assist students with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, toileting, hygiene, dressing, and mobility
* Perform lifting, transferring, and positioning of students using approved techniques and equipment

* Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports
* Assist with de-escalation strategies and ensure student and staff safety
* Maintain consistent routines and structured environments, collaboration & compliance
* Work collaboratively with special education teachers, therapists, school nurses, administrators, and related service providers
* Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policy
* Participate in IEP meetings, training, and professional development as required
* Follow all district, state, and federal special education regulations and required qualifications
* High school diploma
* Experience working with children in educational, healthcare, or support settings
* Ability to perform physically demanding tasks related to student care
* Strong communication and organizational skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred / Strongly Desired Qualifications
* Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – current Mississippi licensure and in good standing
* Experience working with medically fragile students or students with significant disabilities
* Knowledge of self-contained classroom environments and special education services
* CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Work Environment & Physical Demands
* Work performed in self-contained classrooms, medically fragile units, or 1:1 assignments
* Frequent lifting, positioning, and physical assistance (up to [e.g., 50 lbs], with or without assistance)
* Regular exposure to medical procedures and bodily fluids
* Must be able to respond quickly to medical or behavioral emergencies
